French Toast With Hot Dog Buns
Leftover hot dog buns soaked in a custard mixture and then cooked on a pan with butter until golden brown and crispy on the outside and deliciously soft and sweet on the inside.
Ingredients
- 4 Hot Dog Buns
- 2 tbsp Butter for frying
- Maple syrup for serving
Egg Custard Mix
- 4 Eggs
- 1 Cup of Milk (Any milk will work)
Cinnamon Sugar Mix
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Slice the hot dog buns in half lengthwise. Set aside.
- In a large bowl prepare the egg custard mixture whisking together the eggs and milk.
- In a small bowl mix together sugar and cinnamon sugar.
- Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat, melt the butter and then dip the hot dog buns into the egg mix and then place onto the hot pan. Do not overcrowd the pan to avoid uneven cooking.
- Cook for 5 minutes on one side, flip and cook for another 3 minutes on the other side until golden brown. Then sprinkle a bit of the cinnamon sugar mix on each side and cook for 15 seconds on each side to let the sugar caramelize slightly. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
Notes
To make for 2 people: halve all the ingredients.
To make for 1 person: 1 hot dog bun, 1 tsp butter, 1 egg, 1/4 cup milk, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp sugar.
