This egg chocolate pudding is rich, creamy and made with a secret ingredient you probably wouldn’t expect: hard-boiled eggs!
I’ll admit, when I first heard about making chocolate pudding with boiled eggs, I thought there was NO way it would actually taste good. But once the eggs are blended with dark cocoa, milk, sugar and vanilla, they turn into a surprisingly smooth and chocolatey pudding.

It takes just 10 minutes to prepare, has extra protein from the eggs and milk, and you don’t need any protein powder. I definitely recommend chilling it before eating though. It’s SO much better cold!

Wait… Chocolate Pudding With Eggs?
Yep! The main ingredient in this hard boiled egg chocolate pudding recipe really is six boiled eggs.
Unlike traditional chocolate pudding where eggs may be cooked into a custard, we’re starting with eggs that are already completely cooked.
The eggs are blended with milk, cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla until completely smooth. They help give the pudding its thick, creamy consistency while also adding protein.
And don’t worry, you’re definitely not going to be eating chunks of boiled egg in your chocolate pudding! The trick is to blend everything REALLY well and let it chill before serving.

Ingredients You’ll Need
Hard-boiled eggs: You’ll need 6 peeled eggs. Make sure they’re properly cooked but not overcooked, as this helps prevent an overly eggy taste.
Whole milk: Adds creaminess and helps everything blend together. You can add a little more if you prefer a thinner pudding.
Dark cocoa powder: I use ⅓ cup for a really rich chocolate flavour.
Granulated sugar: You’ll need ½ cup to balance out the dark cocoa. You can also use a granulated sugar substitute.
Vanilla extract: Don’t skip this! Vanilla helps bring all the flavours together.
Optional toppings: I love adding whipped topping and a little shaved dark chocolate before serving.

How to Make Hard Boiled Egg Chocolate Pudding
1. Add Everything to the Blender
Starting with the peeled hard-boiled eggs, add all of the pudding ingredients to a blender.
2. Blend Until REALLY Smooth
Blend for 15 seconds, then stop and scrape down the sides and bottom of the blender.
Blend for another 15 seconds, scrape everything down again, then blend for another 40 seconds.
You want the pudding to be completely smooth and creamy.
3. Chill
Technically, you can eat your boiled egg chocolate pudding straight away, but I wouldn’t!
It tastes much better once it’s completely cold. Refrigerate until chilled or, even better, leave it in the fridge overnight.
4. Serve
Spoon the pudding into bowls or dessert cups and top with whipped topping and shaved dark chocolate if you like.
That’s it!

Is Egg Chocolate Pudding High in Protein?
The six hard-boiled eggs and whole milk naturally add protein to this pudding, which makes it a fun alternative to the usual high protein chocolate pudding made with protein powder.
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a health food since this version still contains sugar, but it’s a homemade chocolate dessert with a little extra protein hidden inside.
And if you’re someone who doesn’t love the taste of protein powder in desserts, this is definitely a fun recipe to try!
Easy Variations
For a less sweet pudding, slightly reduce the sugar for a darker chocolate flavour.
For a sugar-free version, swap the sugar for your favourite granulated sugar substitute. Just remember that different sweeteners vary in sweetness, so you may need to adjust the amount.
For a thinner pudding, simply blend in an extra splash of milk.
And if you’re a serious chocolate lover, add shaved dark chocolate on top before serving.

How to Store Boiled Egg Chocolate Pudding
Store leftover pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
I don’t recommend freezing this boiled egg pudding recipe, as freezing and thawing can change the creamy texture.
Egg Chocolate Pudding FAQ
Does hard boiled egg chocolate pudding taste like eggs?
It shouldn’t have a strong eggy taste if you use properly cooked eggs, blend everything really well and serve the pudding chilled. The dark cocoa, sugar and vanilla help balance out the flavour of the eggs.
Why put hard-boiled eggs in chocolate pudding?
Hard-boiled eggs help create a thick, creamy pudding while also adding protein. Since the eggs are already cooked, there’s no need to cook a traditional custard on the stove either.
Can I use a sugar substitute?
Yes! You can replace the granulated sugar with a granulated sugar substitute suitable for no-bake desserts. You may need to adjust the amount depending on how sweet your chosen substitute is.
