17 Little Known Kitchen Hacks That Will Make You Love Cooking
1.Keep Citrus Peels In Brown Sugar Container To Keep It Soft
Brown sugar is essential in baking but it gets hard after you open the package. To prevent it from happening, put some lemon or citrus peel into the brown sugar container and close tthe lid to keep the sugar from hardening.
2.Use A Pants Hanger To Hold Up Recipes While Cooking
A super easy and cheap cooking hack is to hang your recipe book up with a pants hanger, opened from the page you need and hang it up on your kitchen cabinet. This will prevent the book from getting dirty and getting any food scraps on it while making it easy for you to read because it is opened on just the page you need it.
3.Add Some Water To The Bacon Pan To Keep The Fat From Splattering
Cooking bacon can get messy because of the fat flying up once the pan is super hot. To keep that from happening, add a tiny bit of water (about 1 tbsp) into the pan and your bacon will cook nice and evenly, without making your stovetop messy.
4.Keep Bananas Fresh For Longer
To keep your bananas from ripening before you get the chance to eat them, separate the bananas from the stem and wrap some foil or plastic wrap around the stem of each banana. This will make them last up to 5 days longer than just leaving them in a bunch.
5.Make Bananas Ripe Faster
Now if you have the opposite problem and want to quickly ripen your bananas just toss it in a paper bag and leave it for a day. The fruit starts to let out ethylene gas and the bag will trap it, making it ripe in recond time. This also works great for avocados! Nobody likes underripe avocados!!
6.Make Crystal Clear Ice Cubes
If you hate the look of cloudy or foggy ice cubes that come from freezing normal ice, boil the water before freezing it to get crystal clear ice cubes!
7.Keep The Boiling Pot From Ever Boiling Over The Top
I use this kitchen hack almost every day and it saves me so much time from cleaning my stovetop. Every time I boil something and want to leave it, I place a wooden spoon diagonally over the top of the pot. I’m not exactly sure how it works but I swear the pot never boils over! ever!
8.Open Any Jar With Ease
Don’t have a jar opener handy (or a helpful muscular man nearby? guys love opening jars lol!) Be your own helper with this crazy trick: Just gently tap the closed jar lid on top of your counter or cutting board sideways and the jar will pop super easily!
9.Remove Any Food Smell From Your Hands
Do you love cooking but hate the gross smell it leaves on your hands. This is especially bad with onions, garlic, and fish. And the smell doesn’t come off even after washing your hands with soap. Use a stainless steel soap to magically remove any food smells from your hands. I use mine almost every day and it lasts a lifetime! Get one from here.
10.Get The Most Amount Of Juice From Your Lemons
If you want to squeeze out every last drop of a lemon, microwave it for 15 seconds and then roll it on your counter for a bit. After that, you can squeeze the lemon and be guaranteed to get a huge amount of juice out of it!
11.Make Grating Soft Cheeses Easy
If you struggle with grating soft cheese like mozzarella or cheddar, freeze them for 20 minutes before grating and it won’t make a mess to your grater.
12.Make Cooking Roast Veggies And Chips Super Easy
Heat up the cookie sheet you are going to use to cook your veg or chips on before putting the food on it. This will save you from having to flip them halfway through cooking as it will cook from both sides! This is the ultimate lazy food hack!
13.Keep A Cutting Board From Slipping
If you place a slightly damp kitchen towel (make sure it’s not wet!) under your cutting board it will create some friction and prevent it from ever slipping. When I used to work as a chef it was a requirement for everyone to do as having a cutting board slip while cutting up food can be extremely dangerous and end badly!
14.Freeze Leftover Coffee For Iced Coffees
Do you love strong iced coffee and hate putting ice in it because it dilutes it down? Just freeze some coffee in an ice cube tray for a perfect summertime iced coffee fix!
15.Make Reheated Pizza Taste Freshly Cooked
Have you noticed that when you reheat a cold pizza it never ends up quite nice? To fix this, spray some (just a tiny bit) water on top of the pizza and cook it in the oven for about 5 minutes at 350 Degrees. This will make the pizza taste freshly made (even tho it’s been sitting in your fridge for days)!
16.Cut The Perfect Piece Of Cake Every Single Time
Run your cake cutting knife under hot running water for a couple of seconds before sliding it into the cake. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the blade and result in a beautifully cut cake.
17.Cook Poached Eggs In A Muffin Tray
Whether you are hosting a brunch at your house or just like to cook up to 12 eggs at a time, you can use a muffin pan for it! When poaching eggs in a pot, you can only make 2-3 at a time and they are easy to mess up. With this muffin pan kitchen hack, you can cook as many as you like by pouring 1 tablespoon of water into each cup and then cracking 1 egg on top of it. Then put the whole pan into a preheated oven at 350 Degrees F and cook for 8-9 minutes. You also don’t have to fill the whole pan, just make as many as you like and leave the other muffin cups empty.
